Enjoy a variety of activities in celebration of wintering American Bald Eagles returning to southwest Illinois during Eagle Fest! The celebration will take place across Alton in 3 different locations. The Alton Visitor Center, Audubon Center, and the National Great Rivers Museum will be offering a variety of exciting activities.
Want to view a majestic Eagle up close? Head to the Alton Visitor Center Alton Visitor Center from 10 am to 2 pm for a free Eagle Meet & Greet for a chance to get your picture taken with one!
The National Great Rivers Museum will be offering a number of free family friendly activities throughout the day as well. Stop by the theater for talks by eagle experts and to view eagle video showings. Look through spotting scopes for a chance to view an eagle’s nest. Children's crafts, eagle passport goodies, and open tours of the locks and dam will also be available throughout the day!
The Audubon Center at Riverlands will also be offering many outdoor learning activities! Take part in a guided hike along the trails to view many birds that call the sanctuary their home. Free activities include building a bald eagle's nest, tree cookie crafts, wheel of knowledge, and meet the mascot, Eric the Eagle! Register for an Eagle Meet & Greet Session to meet an American Bald Eagle up close and personal! During this session, guests will learn about eagle adaptations, conservation history, and many fun facts! These sessions are offered at 10 am, 11 am, 12 pm, 1 pm, and 2 pm. Cap off your day by the fire as you roast a s'more or enjoy BBQ from the Dam It Joes tent.
