Are you looking for a fall festival full of nostalgia, plenty of shopping, great food and interesting exhibits? Sainte Genevieve’s Rural Heritage Day is the perfect chance to experience the days of yesteryear, see demonstrations of how things ‘used to be done’ and explore the shops and attractions of the town’s charming historic district.

Rural Heritage Day is a celebration of history, reverie and reminiscence dedicated to the hard-working forefathers and foremothers of Sainte Genevieve, the oldest colonial town in Missouri. The event celebrates rural skills and traditions with “living history” demonstrations of outdoor cooking, food preservation, fur trading, fashions of the past, children’s games and more. Come see demonstrations of wool spinning, chair caning, lace making, and wooden box construction. This is a family-friendly event that offers something for everyone. Many demonstrations will be occurring at the historic sites and at shops sprinkled throughout the historic district. Pick up a schedule of tour times and times of events at the Welcome Center

The historic district features demonstrations of wool spinning, paper filigree, chair caning, loom weaving and knitting The Jean Baptiste Valle House, Green Tree Tavern, Bauvais-Amoureux House, Bolduc House, the Felix Vallé State Historic Site, and La Maison de Guibourd are all open to the public. Pick up a map and a schedule of events at the Welcome Center and watch for signs indicating the location of festival-related activities.

Downtown Sainte Genevieve has all the charm of an Old World village, featuring narrow streets, secluded gardens, and a nice selection of local dining and bed-and-breakfast options. The surrounding countryside offers fabulous fall scenery, as well as a wide selection of wineries, microbreweries, hiking trails, and a golf course. Stay the day and have a blast from the past!
