Ongoing Exhibits & Events - Metropolitan St. Louis

Metropolitan St. Louis is home to a number of venues including the Saint Louis Zoo, the Missouri History Museum, and the World Chess Hall of Fame that are the home to ongoing exhibits that change periodically. During the winter there are a number of holiday light shows that are located throughout the region.

T. S. Eliot: A Game of Chess

T. S. Eliot: A Game of Chess explores Eliot’s famous poem, The Waste Land, through the theme of chess. After World War I, the Spanish Flu, and his father’s death, Eliot wrote The Waste Land, a poem expressing grief and feelings of alienation in a rapidly modernizing society. Situated just steps from his parent’s home in Saint Louis' Central West End, this exhibit features artifacts and multimedia displays relating to Eliot’s poem, his chess metaphors, and the many strands of his life that he wove into his writing.

Donna Dodson: Match of the Matriarchs and other Amazonomachies

Donna Dodson: Match of the Matriarchs and other Amazonomachies is the first solo exhibition by a female artist hosted by the World Chess Hall of Fame (WCHOF). The show, which centers on women’s stories, women’s lives, and their place in the history of chess, includes Dodson’s monumental, life-sized chess set Match of the Matriarchs, which contains 32-large scale wooden sculptures representing all-female representations of cephalopods battling cetaceans.

Kick off your weekend at the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park! Each Thursday Night at the Museum will be the most fun, engaging, uplifting, thought-provoking, perspective-shaping night of your week. And there are drinks. Join us starting at 5:30 pm for happy hour and pop-up activities, such as brief tours, games, and performances. The main stage comes to life at 6:30 pm, light appetizers and drinks are available for purchase until 7 pm, and the Museum’s exhibits are open until 8 pm for you to explore!

Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum Guides

From March through November the Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum offers free bus/trolley tours as well as walking tours. These tours take place on select days and you may register to attend by reviewing their events calendar.  All tours are led by a Bellefontaine Master Guide.
