There are a number of public and private campgrounds in the greater metropolitan St. Louis area including Babler State Park in St. Louis County and Pere Marquette State Park across the Mississippi River in Grafton, Illinois.

Bird Watching
St. Louis is located at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, which and sits along one of America’s most active flyways for birds migrating north and south each year. There is a large variety of natural areas including state parks, conservation areas, sanctuaries, and city parks that provide a range of habitats including wetlands, open fields, and bottomland forests. Approximately 300 species of birds can be seen in the St. Louis area making it a great spot for bird watching.

Ferries of the Middle Mississippi River Valley
There are 6 ferries, 2 free and 4 toll, that cross the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers in the Middle Mississippi River Valley. Two free ferries connect Jersey and Calhoun counties in Illinois. Two toll ferries connect Saint Charles County, Missouri with Jersey and Calhoun counties in Illinois. One ferry provides service between Ste. Genevieve, Missouri and Randolph County, Illinois and another connects Mississippi County, Missouri with Hickman, Kentucky.

Trailnet
Trailnet is the premier bicycling organization of St. Louis, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to lead in fostering healthy, active and vibrant communities where walking, bicycling and the use of public transit are a way of life. Trailnet hosts rides from March to October. Rides are held throughout the region, in the city of St. Louis and in scenic rural areas of Missouri and Illinois.
